Relson Gracie's style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is uniquely suited for street self defense. Thus self defense is the main component of our focus at Boulder Jiu Jitsu. Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is designed to accomodate people with every imaginable goal, from people just looking to get in shape and learn the most effective self defense, to those aspiring to be professional athletes competing at the highest level of competition in both grappling and mixed martial arts. We will provide you with the pure, essential techniques and strategies of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, as handed down from master Helio Gracie to his son Relson Gracie over a lifetime of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu Instruction.

As a grappling and control-based martial art, jiu jitsu is ideally suited for self defense. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu introduces the concepts of leverage, positioning and angle into a conflict, and allows the practitioner to use these concepts along with critical thinking skills to overcome a disadvantage in size and strength. Thus it allows a smaller person to defend themself against a much larger one.

Our program includes grappling both with and without the gi (uniform for training), and unlike some modern BJJ programs also has classes that are focused on dealing with punches while groundfighting and general street self defense. Relson Gracie's Jiu-Jitsu was proven in the mean streets of Brazil, where he went undefeated in both formal and informal competition for over 20 years, earning him the nickname "Campeao," ("Champion").  He has developed a realistic style that is exceptionally well suited for both self defense scenarios and Mixed Martial Arts competition.
